Milk
This stuff is the basis of numerous culinary delights.
Without milk you couldn't make a roux, couldn't put milk in coffee, and
couldn't have cream. Cream is especially important, as it is one of the
ingredients of Bailey's Irish Cream, the nicest drink ever invented[tm].
Milk comes in a variety of forms round here. Channel Islands
Milk is very rich, and comes from mainland Britain. The cows which
make it are, however, Jersey and Guernsey cows. It is very rich and
tastes like cream. Breakfast Milk is something I've never had.
Skimmed, Semi-Skimmed and Full Cream Milk are all much the same
but with varying amounts of fat, from almost nothing, through 1.7% to
about 4.4% fat, I think. Homogenised milk is full cream but
without the separated cream. Things to do with milk
- Make a milkshake. Non right-on types use Nesquik for this
purpose.
- Put it in hot beverages. Right-on types don't do this.
- Put it on breakfast cereal. Some cereals stay crisp under the
influence of ice cold milk, while others make a popping sound. As I
understand it, no cereals can maintain crispiness under the influence of
boiling milk.
- Feed it to a hungry cat. Watch the cat throw up later.
- Mix it into flour and water, and fry the mixture. Eat
pancakes.
