The Vendor Number
The Vendor Number (or Vendor Code) is an eight figure code which
uniquely identifies a vendor. It usually consists of four letters and
four numbers, such as NSME5442, which might stand for NSM Engineering, or
CSIE6725 which might be Computer Systeme Internationale. There are a number of ways to
find out a particular vendor's number.
- If there are POs raised with the vendor then the number will be
in the POPLAN at the bottom right of each part's section, in the
following format:
ORDERS: CSIE6725 C68nnnnn date quantity
A complete list of vendors can be found in a document about a foot
high. It contains every vendor in alphabetical order along with the
address and vendor number. Be prepared to spend a little time finding
the one needed.
Sometimes the vendor number will be of a different format, particularly
in the case of other divisions of HP. These numbers are still included
in the large vendor document.
